Kathryn Ann Thaggard is a New York-based seamstress who habitually refers to herself by her initials: KAT. Hailing from south Mississippi, KAT has 15+ years of experience since making clothes for her Barbie dolls and purchasing her first sewing machine in the sixth grade.
After years of self-taught sewing, KAT began her professional seamstressing journey working for Brooklyn-based designer Miss Claire Sullivan, helping construct sample and custom garments for brand collections and clients. She also aided in the creation of editorial fashion featured in publications such as Vogue and Interview Magazine and donned by figures including Sarah Paulson, Selena Gomez, and others.
KAT is currently the repairs specialist for Happy Isles salon in SoHo. Here she has mended countless vintage designer garments (dated as far back as 1930) and worked on iconic labels like Versace, Hanae Mori, and Bill Whitten. These garments have been frequently published and worn by the likes of Millie Bobby Brown and Blake Lively.
KAT also creates custom couture for herself, her friends, and her family. Her most complex personal endeavor to date was the four looks that she alone created to be worn to Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour. She assigns herself simpler projects for fun as well, such as a Christmas pageant dress recently made for and worn by her friend's 3 year old daughter. Her family is her favorite set of private clients, as they have fostered her love of sewing and textiles since the day baby KAT insisted on a custom-made Dorothy dress because the one at the Halloween store was not up to her standards.
